About the Database Team 

We are a motivated and growing team of LCA and sustainability data experts as well as data scientists. Our mission is to bring the highest quality and most extensive data available to users and partners. The database team at PRé implements the leading databases available in SimaPro to provide a seamless experience for our users. In our efforts we partner with governmental and private organizations, as well as database developers. To name a few: ecoinvent, Agri-footprint, EF secondary data, World Food database, Exiobase and many more. These generic and sector specific databases are often the cornerstone of the work LCA Experts do. We also work with providers of Life Cycle Impact Assessment methods to provide state-of-the-art assessment options in our solutions.

In addition to helping data providers reach a broad and diverse audience, we also help clients connect their data to databases. Our database team works on innovative database management and data handling solutions to connect users to a variety of sources of data, enabling interoperability of data and to help data developers manage and maintain their data in our solutions..

Database creation has also become a topic for the team, and we are now working on the development of a core database of secondary data for the European Commission. This environmental footprint database will be used for a wide variety of policies and regulations as well as potentially other major use cases. This database will be the foundation for a wide range of activities and decision-making, and will likely be an integral part of the future data ecosystem while also creating room for complimentary databases to flourish, and we are looking for someone who is excited to contribute to this activity with their data expertise and coordination skills.

Beyond these activities, we contribute to the development of product category databases of parameterized product system models as well as facilitate the creation of company-internal databases. What you will be doing

Are you a flexible, innovative, and result-oriented person with extensive experience with data generation and use in LCA as well as excellent project management skills? Do you want to invest your talent to work on ground-breaking projects, help guide the Database team on content issues and accelerate sustainable action and innovation across PRé?

The main goals of this full-time (32-40 hours) position are to:

  • Lead the content expertise of the Database team by leading database management projects, providing methodological and data expertise, and helping to coordinate the team’s efforts.
  • Structure and supervise work efforts in a major, multi-year project to build an extensive, high-quality database for the European Commission.
  • Maintain and expand the broad offerings of databases and impact assessment methods in PRé solutions through expert contributions and project management on this core task.
  • Maintain and improve our internal data management processes through the coordination of automation and efficiency-increasing efforts in the team and with partners.
  • Support a positive and motivated team of data analysts through guidance and knowledge sharing.

What you will bring along

  • PhD in Environmental / Nature Sciences/ Industrial Ecology and/or significant work experience in sustainability, specifically on environmental assessments and life cycle-based approaches
  • Extensive knowledge and work experience with LCA inventory databases and/or impact assessment methods, ideally with experience in coordinating work on data packages and releases to users
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written English
  • A collaborative spirit
  • EU citizen or work permit for the Netherlands
