Life Cycle Innovation Conference (LCIC) 2024
We were excited to join the 4th Life Cycle Innovation Conference which will take place on July 3 -5 in Berlin, Germany. During the conference, our aim was to raise awareness about the significance of scaling up LCA through innovation, collaboration, and integration of LCA software like SimaPro with other software solutions. Our field is on the edge of a major transition: a shift from individual craftsmanship to multidisciplinary collaboration.
LCIC offers a unique, creative space where participants can share new ways to foster sustainability efforts worldwide and link these to innovation processes. The conference brings together a diverse crowd of change-makers, who all share the same passion for sustainability and creating a better world. At PRé, we truly believe in LCIC’s mission to promote a better world by taking a systems perspective to foster sustainable innovation.
We were excited to be part of this 4th edition of LCIC as a gold sponsor, and to present at the conference. Our sponsorship reflects our firm belief in the power of collaboration. We are convinced that only by working together, we can create meaningful synergies, make a significant impact, and drive positive change.

Scaling up LCA: Integrating environmental metrics into decision-making
Day 2 | July 4, 11:30 | Sponsored session 02 – Track A
In today’s business world, sustainability has gone from an optional feature to a crucial aspect of corporate strategy. With more and more people realizing the severity of the environmental challenges we face, the demand for environmental metrics has skyrocketed. How can we meet this demand in a transparent, flexible and scalable way? One way to achieve this is by integrating life cycle assessment software like SimaPro with the tools and systems that businesses already use daily.
In this session, Eric Mieras, Managing Director of PRé Sustainability, shared how PRé is addressing the increasing demand for sustainability metrics. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Ryan Florijn, Director of Commerce at PRé Sustainability, on the challenges that the LCA community is facing due to this immense growth, and how we can scale up our practices to have more impact.
Guiding decarbonization efforts with integrated sustainability metrics
Day 2 | July 4, 16:15 | Session 13 – Climate Change
Organizations face a significant challenge due to the increasing demand for environmental footprint information and factors such as shifting regulations and a growing customer preference for sustainable products.
In this session, Reinier shared how our calculation engine can offer automated in-depth analyses for complex products and even entire portfolios. He explained how we provide organizations full transparency in results and offer this wide variety of the latest methodologies for reporting beyond the carbon footprint. We offer this in a flexible manner, so end-users achieve their decarbonization goals using the tools they are already familiar with.
Co-create for affordable and accessible LCA
Day 2 | July 4, 17:30 | Session 16 – Eco-Design
To scale up the availability of footprint information and to make these LCA results more accessible and affordable, it is important that more sector specific tools are created that serve the needs of specific industries.Together with PRé, Eurofins BLC created the Footwear Impact Calculator giving footwear companies reliable access to LCA results within minutes, to improve their current product lines and develop new ones. Based on the (draft) PEFCR guidelines for Apparel Footwear so that results are more easily comparable, the solution features a generic LCA model that caters for a large variety of footwear configurations.
During this presentation, Ellie discussed the relevance of sector specific solutions, demonstrated the advantages of applying digitization in LCA on the back of an actual case and explained the lessons learned in and during partner co-creation.
Bridging the gap between LCA and sales of complex manufacturing products through strategic integration
Day 3 | July 5, 14:15 | Session 18 – Digitalization
Increasingly, buyers of highly complex and customizable products are interested in the environmental impact of the product to align with their sustainability goals. To address this, Tacton and PRé have developed the Environmental Footprint Configurator, an add-on for Tacton’s Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ) softare, which integrates with SimaPro.
In this session, Joeri explained how this tool allows manufacturers to automatically calculate the environmental footprint of each product variant during the quoting process, without requiring sales teams to have knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), thus integrating LCA into the sales process seamlessly.
We hope to see you at the next LCIC conference!
