1 session (ONLINE)
This biodiversity assessment short course provides you with the core concepts and theory on biodiversity assessment, going beyond carbon-only assessments to determine further ecosystem and species impacts.
During the training, you will learn how to extend your life cycle assessments to the endpoint of biodiversity impact (in potentially disappeared fraction of species per square metre per year) on a company-specific and project-specific level. We will demonstrate how this could work using a physical data approach using LCA databases. We will discuss the main impact assessment methods used and how to interpret the metric.
We will give an outlook for how to work with the strengths and limitations of an LCA approach and supplement with multi-indicators approaches.
We will end the session with ample time for questions and discussion topics we didn’t get to.
Please note: Previous experience conducting life cycle assessments is a prerequisite. Preferably, each participant is familiar with and works on an LCA software in their daily work. We will be using SimaPro Craft during the course.
